Omar* is a seven-year-old boy who lives with his mother as well as his three siblings in a displacement camp in Puntland, Somalia. His father passed away several years ago while they were living in Ethiopia.
A couple of years ago, Omar* and his family were displaced from Ethiopia to Somalia due to drought and locust infestations destroying their farm. They began suffering from hunger, so they needed to find somewhere to live with access to food.
Nowadays, Omar*s mother receives cash support to help pay for basic necessities like food. In addition, she has set up a kiosk in their displacement camp selling candy to help pay for daily life. Omar* loves eating spaghetti for lunch and, because he can remember feeling pain while being hungry, he hopes that his family
continues getting financial support.
During the day, Omar* attends kindergarten. His favourite subject is Somali. In addition, he goes to a child-friendly space with other children who live in the displacement camp too. There, he loves drawing and playing football with his friends.
Looking forward, Omar* hopes to see his community transform into a green oasis. He loves nature and dreams of trees being planted around his house in the displacement camp so that he can play football on a grassy area with his friends. In the future, he wants to become a teacher so that he can help people work towards a better future for everyone.
