Around the world, children’s and communities’ lives are under threat due to climate change.
“I felt the earth shake and I told my parents that there were families being swept away by the river… We saw a landslide where a truck came falling and dragged several houses down,” says Horado, 14, of the huge storm that struck his community in Guatemala.
In particular, Indigenous Peoples are disproportionally affected by climate change, especially because of the profound connection between them and their territories and lands; a connection which is central to Indigenous identities, ancestral knowledge, legal orders, and ways of living.
However, they also play a unique and essential role in combating climate change, with generations of knowledge on practices for land and water stewardship, and climate-resiliency.
Building Climate Resilience from Indigenous Perspectives
The Building Climate Resilience from Indigenous Perspectives (BCRIP) project builds on this essential role, aiming to develop climate resilience and support Indigenous-led transformative climate action in Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, and Guatemala, in partnership with Indigenous Peoples in Canada for knowledge sharing and relationship building.
BCRIP is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and is a partnership between the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN); the National Reconciliation Program at Save the Children Canada; Save the Children in Latin America and the Caribbean; and the Continental Network of Indigenous Women of the Americas (ECMIA SUR), through the Organización Nacional de Mujeres Indígenas Andinas y Amazónicas del Perú/the National Organization of Andean and Amazonian Indigenous Women in Peru (ONAMIAP).
Calls for Proposal
IMPORTANT UPDATE: After a further review of the process and in consideration of the high level of interest, the BCRIP Team, in consultation with the Indigenous Steering Group (ISG), announces important updates regarding the application process, detailed below:
- Deadline Extension: The deadline for the full joint proposals is extended to 30th May.
- Closure of Registration of Interest for Groups in the South: Due to the high volume of interest in the BCRIP Call and the ineligibility of many prospective applicants, registration of interest for new organizations from the South will close on April 2 at 11:59 PM. Please see below for details. Registrations from the North are still accepted.
Registration of Interest Process:
- Both Northern and Southern organizations must complete the eligibility self-assessment form (available in English | Español)
- Southern organizations that pass the eligibility assessment will automatically proceed to a Concept Note (CN) questionnaire, which must be completed by April 2nd to be considered.
- Northern organizations that pass the eligibility assessment will be directed to a separate questionnaire to provide additional information about themselves.
- A Preselection of the shared Concept Notes (from the South) will be made based on the selection criteria of the BCRIP project, the organizations from the South that pass, will be informed after April 20th, and will be invited to prepare the full proposal.
- Last week of April a matching webinar will be held to support the North-South partnering process to which the preselected organizations will be invited.
Only one of the partners must submit the proposal (in English or Spanish) via email to bcrip.ipp4c@outlook.com before the deadline.
Selected projects are anticipated to be notified in July 2025, with agreements finalized and projects set to begin between July and September 2025.
The BCRIP project will fund Indigenous-led Nature-Based Solutions Partnership Projects in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, and Guatemala, which will be co-designed and co-implemented in partnership with Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
Partnership projects will include knowledge sharing, relationship building, and joint advocacy opportunities. Projects should also focus on several cross-cutting themes, such as Indigenous-led climate action, Indigenous self-determination, rights, knowledge systems/science and gender equality.
Interested Indigenous Nations and organizations in Canada and Indigenous communities and/or organizations in the four Latin American countries will be required to collaborate on the creation and submission of a proposal.
