Primary Job Purpose
This position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of Indigenous and Canadian Programs. Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Indigenous and Canadian Programs ensures that a high quality programming portfolio and partnerships are developed to achieve immediate and lasting change for Indigenous children and youth in Canada including supporting the development and delivery of emergency response and recovery for all children in Canada.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you address strategic and operational challenges and opportunities, providing strategic vision, direction and leadership to teams. You lead planning to translate strategy into operational workplans and lead team execution to deliver results. You demonstrate dual leadership within Save the Children International with Global Domestic Programs leaders through representation in key global forums and Member collaboration initiatives to contribute to global solution development and address global issues and risks. You represent Save the Children externally to key stakeholders, donors and partners while building trust and cultivating long term relationships. As a leader of the organization you ensure regular strategic communications with staff teams to share relevant and timely information related to organizational strategy, operations, leadership decisions, policies and other important information. You proactively model and reinforce the values of Save the Children to build a positive organizational culture.
Through the lens of an Indigenous communities’ right to self-determination, you oversee the successful development and implementation of culturally relevant and community-based Indigenous programs from community engagement, proposal development, program design & operations, grant management, monitoring and evaluation. You support the development of the domestic emergency response and recovery programming portfolio. You build strategic partnerships with new funders and implementation partners to achieve goals. You engage the National Indigenous Advisory Circle and the Board of Directors as needed. As a budget holder you achieve targets, manage operational expenditures to plan, prepare regular forecasts, variance explanations, and high quality management reports.

Chair National Indigenous Advisory Circle and manage interface between the Circle and key stakeholders including the Board, SLT and external parties
Develop and maintain long-term relationships with community stakeholders, partners, donors, practitioners, global Member and SCI networks
Cultivate new partnerships to grow program portfolio and reach, collaborating with business development teams to identify, solicit and secure new funding for Indigenous Programs and emergency response and recovery efforts

Build capacity and share lessons learned within Save the Children International with respect to an Indigenous communities’ right to self-determination sharing knowledge and lessons learned for management strategies, policy and direct practice in working with Indigenous communities and partners.
Champion learning, development, and training opportunities for Save the Children staff, Board, SCI, and partners to build capacity, knowledge, and increase cultural safety to meaningful engage Indigenous relationships/partnerships. |

Qualifications and Experience
- Master degree in Education / Arts / Social Work / Social Sciences / History; or combined equivalent education and work experience
- 10+ years’ progressive experience working in Indigenous community development contexts in Canada
- Knowledge and experience with International Development / INGO sector is considered an asset
- Deep knowledge of Canada’s historical context as it relates to Indigenous Peoples, including governance systems, political landscape, current issues and reconciliation
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience leading team of professionals with demonstrated skills in motivating, coordinating and supporting technical, project management, knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation
- Experience with child rights programming in areas of Health, Education, Child Protection, Child Poverty and a deep understanding of social determinants of health for Indigenous children and their families in Canada
- 5 – 7 years’ experience in new business development, with proven track record to secure new funding for programs
- Knowledge of culturally relevant gender equality principles and practices
