2021 Year In Review

TOGETHER WE HELPED CHILDREN IN CRISIS

JANUARY
Lara lives with her family in a displacement camp in Syria.They fled violence near their home three years ago and are now reliant on a tent that doesn’t provide much protection from the cold. Your support makes it possible for our partner organization, Hurras Network, to support displaced families like Lara’s in the camp.

FEBRUARY
Camila left Venezuela three years ago and now lives in Colombia with her extended family. They were struggling financially, but with your help Save the Children provided support to Camila’s family with a cash transfer and nutritious food.

MARCH
In Somalia, Hasina’s family faced several years of hardship due to the climate crisis. Intensifying droughts caused them to lose their livestock, livelihood and home. They now live on the outskirts of a small village. Your dedication helped Save the Children to bring fresh water to the village by truck.

APRIL
Banna loves school, but bullies were targeting him because he is different. Akib, a Save the Children volunteer in the Rohingya refugee camp, met Banna and realized he was having a tough time. With your help, we were able to provide Banna with ongoing mental health support and he is coping much better. We were also able to provide Banna a wheelchair so he can get out and play more easily.

MAY
When armed men came to his village in Mozambique, Carlos fled into the bush with his pregnant mother Elena. When Elena gave birth, Carlos made the brave decision to go in search of supplies. On his journey, Carlos was separated from his mother by the conflict. Your support helped Save the Children reunite Carlos and his mother.

JUNE
For the first time in history, the Covid-19 pandemic paused schooling for an entire generation. But on the 1st of June, you and our community of supporters enabled the voices of children around the world to be heard, pressuring world leaders to make sure their education gets back on track.

JULY
6-year-old Edith wasn’t going to let the pandemic stop her from learning the alphabet. Through our broadcasts on the community radio, she kept up with her school work. When schools closed in Uganda, your support provided the tools to ensure children could continue their lessons.

AUGUST
The deadly earthquake in Haiti on August 14th devastated families and communities. Your dedication for children shone through as you supported our immediate response to deploy the Emergency Health Unit. With your help we were able to provide much needed items, including tarps and life-saving healthcare.

SEPTEMBER
You were there for Afghanistan’s children when they needed it most. Because of your support, Save the Children is continuing its work for families across the country.

OCTOBER
In South Sudan, Akello’s village, home and school were destroyed by floods last year. Her family became displaced because of the disaster. Akello was determined to keep learning and as soon as spaces were rebuilt, thanks to donors like you, Akello and her classmates returned to school.

NOVEMBER
Baby Arwa’s family are farmers in rural Yemen, but times are tough. They are struggling to afford food because of the rising cost of essential items. Arwa became unwell, so her parents took her to a treatment centre where she was found to be malnourished. With your help, Save the Children provided the nourishment and treatment she needed.

DECEMBER
2021 has been another tough year for children, with Covid-19, conflict and the climate crisis only making things worse. Through it all, children have remained resilient and hopeful because of your dedication. Your support reminds them they have the right to be safe and to always follow their dreams. Thank you!
