Primary Job Purpose
As a senior leader within the Resource Development Team, you will play a key role in ensuring that Save the Children is well positioned to meet our Mission and our Ambition for Children 2030 Strategic Plan.
The
Senior Manager, Direct Marketing is responsible for growing the revenue from Save the Children Canada’s individual supporters including monthly giving donors, annual or one-time donors (<$5000), and donors who support Save the Children Canada in emergency response/relief efforts.
This role will be instrumental in achieving a key pillar of SCC’s 2017 and 2018 strategy – to double unrestricted revenue to $10M by 2018 and significantly increase the size of the monthly donor file. In support of these targets, the Senior Manager, Direct Marketing will focus on the development and implementation of a donor cultivation and retention strategy aimed at (1) maximizing the revenue opportunities within the file; (2) increasing donor engagement at all levels; (3) improving attrition rates; (4) increasing the lifetime value of donors. Aggressive growth targets are established for this portfolio and the Senior Manager will be expected to track and monitor progress toward those targets.
The Senior Manager, Direct Marketing also provides leadership within the marketing portfolio for Save the Children Canada and supervises the Marketing Manager, Acquisition. These roles will work collaboratively to set acquisition targets, establish marketing plans and track progress toward these goals.
The following represent key accountabilities for this position:
Accountabilities

- Clearly articulate the value proposition of Save the Children Canada to our donors In collaboration with the CDO, and develop annual work plans and budgets designed to achieve revenue targets
- Work with Program and Communications teams to ensure all direct response appeals align with organizational priorities
- Investigate new trends and opportunities in mass marketing to improve cultivation and retention efforts
- Manage various direct response marketing initiatives including direct mail appeals, telemarketing initiatives, and other vehicles
- Manage supplier contracts
- Work with external suppliers to develop strong, compelling integrated appeals (mail, web, email, DRTV and telemarketing)
- Position Save the Children Canada as a preferred partner for donors in emergency response/relief fundraising programs
- Provide input into product development offers for increasing engagement and revenue opportunities in this portfolio
- Enhance strategies for lapsed donor reactivation; upgrade of current donors; and cross-promotion opportunities in order to improve acquisition efforts and marketing efficiencies.
- Track performance in acquisition channels and direct marketing programs by appeal for profitability and volume, ensuring expense and revenue tracks are on budget, advising if variances are anticipated and suggesting mitigation strategies
- Ensure there is a refreshed and active pipeline for monthly giving donors through careful segmentation of the database
- Establish file segmentation and monitor files for growth opportunities implementing key performance metrics for various donor cultivation and retention efforts; provide ongoing analysis
- Provide on-going stewardship to monthly giving donors through timely updates on the impact of their gifts
- Plan and execute a strategy to convert new-to-file one time donors to monthy donors
- Develop and manage the donor impact reports and monthly e-news in cooperation with the Communications team
- Work with the Manager Planned Giving on the delivery of the acquisition program for planned giving donors
- Network with Save the Children International to share ideas and leverage best practice from other offices

Skills / Knowledge / Experience
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in direct response marketing, specifically in membership or customer service programs
- A proven track record of success in achieving revenue targets associated with large direct response programs
- Experience working with external suppliers and providing guidance or direction for creative and copywriting
- Experience with development of direct response plans, budgets, performance metrics, analytics and on-going management and tracking of results
- Strong interpersonal and motivational skills
- Creative thinker
- Previous project management experience and proficiency in workflow planning
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills; French communications skills an asset
- Strong organization, problem-solving, and follow-up skills
- Solid skills in Microsoft PC applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
