Toronto, July 16, 2024 – Acclaimed actors have joined together to amplify the challenges faced by girls in crisis around the world. Erin Karpluk, Dani Kind, Karen Robinson, Jess Salgueiro, and Laura Vandervoort have generously donated their voices to produce compelling videos in support of Save the Children’s Girls in Crisis campaign.
The initiative comes at a critical time when the number of children living in war zones has nearly doubled in the last thirty years. Amidst the conflict, girls face disproportionate risks, including sexual and gender-based violence, forced marriage, and limited access to essential services like healthcare and education. Shockingly, these incidents often go unreported and overlooked, silencing their voices that need to be heard.
“A staggering 468 million children live in war zones, facing unimaginable dangers. Girls are often at higher risk of sexual violence and forced marriage when a conflict is raging. It’s essential that we amplify their voices and share their stories.” said Danny Glenwright, President and CEO of Save the Children.
“We are grateful these talented actors are using their voices to highlight this important cause. We hope their support will inspire action and bring attention to the urgent need to prioritize the unique needs of girls in crisis,” he added.
Working in more than 100 countries worldwide, we support the well-being of children living in crisis across several key areas, including education, protection, water and sanitation, and health and nutrition. We can not do this alone. These videos bring visibility and critical support where it’s needed the most.
