Six things you should know about #IDW2023
From February 5th-11th, we celebrate International Development Week (IDW) to highlight and honour the international development efforts made by the Government of Canada and Canadian citizens. This uniquely Canadian celebration brings together those across various sectors, from government, businesses, civil society, philanthropy, schools, community organizations and the public.
Here are six things you should know about IDW:
- IDW was started in 1991 by Global Affairs Canada and become a moment celebrated alongside hundreds of Canadian organizations.
- Every year there is a different theme for IDW but for the last 3 years, the theme has been Go For the Goals. This is a call to action for Canadians to support the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
- SDG’s are a global blueprint towards a better world. They are in place to help us achieve gender equality, reach net zero emissions, halt and reverse nature loss, end hunger and malnutrition, build inclusive societies, and make sure everyone has access to quality education and health care.
- At Save the Children, we will continue to #GofortheGoals this year as we strive to create positive change for children as promised by the SDGs. We will continue to focus our efforts on children in crisis, Indigenous child rights, gender equality and climate justice.
- All Canadians can take part in #IDW2023. Click here to check out various events across the country from art contests and podcasts to panel events and film screenings.
