Working in partnership with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities, our Youth Project Design and Community Planning provides new employment opportunities for youth in their communities and addresses priority social issues.
We help train Indigenous youth who are interested in community development. The youth are taught to build a set of core skills and competencies in community planning, project design, grant proposal writing and evaluation plan development specifically within First Nations, Métis, and Inuit community context.
By the end of the training program, we expect youth will be able to do the following:
- Understand features of community planning and development projects
- Design and apply a community planning project using community concept mapping
- Design a community development project and write a grant proposal for the design
- Develop a comprehensive evaluation plan for a development project
An overarching goal of the training course is to mobilize youth to become an effective agent of change within their communities by creating innovative ways to address community-level issues that are youth-led, informed and driven. Additionally, it is anticipated that developing fundable grants will increase employment opportunities for youth as they will implement the new projects.
